Coghlan Orthodontics is a 2nd generation, family-owned practice founded by Dr. Charles Y. Coghlan. Affectionately called Dr. C by his patients and staff, Dr. Coghlan earned his dental degree from the University of Louisville in 1964. After two years as a dental officer in the U.S. Army, he completed his orthodontic training at Indiana University School of Dentistry, earned his M.S.D. (Masters of Science in Dentistry), and moved his family to Bloomington in 1968. The original Coghlan Orthodontics was located on the southeast corner of 3rd St. and Grant St. in downtown Bloomington. In 1976 Dr. C moved the office to AutoMall Rd. on the southeast side of town, where our neighbors were grazing cows. Dr. Kevin worked at this office during his summers in high school and college until he officially joined the practice in 1989 after completing his orthodontic training. In 1992, Drs. Coghlan and Coghlan moved to our current location which is a true Coghlan collaboration of a building with the design done by architect Michael Coghlan, Dr. Kevin’s older brother. Although he officially retired in 2011, Dr. C frequently drops by the office to check in with everyone. We have both enjoyed seeing children and grandchildren of Dr. Charles’ original patients. Here at Coghlan Orthodontics, we are proud of the fact that together, as a father/son team we have been “Creating Healthy Hoosier Smiles since 1968”.
